Erect shrub or suffrutex up to 1 m high, usually (always?) with a thickened subterranean caudex with fibrous roots from the base, glabrous, or lanate in the upper leaf-axils; stems often several from the caudex, stout to slender, strongly to weakly lignified, simple or branching apically, sometimes repeatedly ramified, leafy in the upper parts, becoming defoliated and marked with scale-like, narrowly triangular, often acuminate-cuspidate persistent leaf-bases. Leaves closely or sometimes more laxly set, erecto-patent-spreading or reflexed, linear-filiform, 0.8-8 cm long, three-forked from or above (seldom below) the middle or pinnatipartite with up to 5 pairs of lobes, subcoriaceous or sometimes slightly fleshy; rachis faintly or sometimes distinctly mid-veined, 0.5-2 mm wide; lobes erecto-patent-spreading, 0.2-4(-5) cm long, 0.3-1.5 mm wide, subacute, bluntly and minutely apiculate. Peduncles terminal, solitary at the branch tips but often several-many close together (due to compact apical branching), 6-25(-35) cm long, 0.5-1.5 mm wide, erect or suberect, terete, smooth or somewhat striate. Involucre hemispherical or widely campanulate, 0.9-2 cm in diam. Involucral bracts subuniseriate-subbiseriate, (8-)11-17, connate to 1/4-1/3 or seldom to the middle, ovate-lanceolate, 4-10 mm long, 1-4(-5) mm wide, somewhat coriaceous, distinctly 3-7(-10)-veined, acute or somewhat acuminate, with ciliate or puberulous tips. Receptacle convex, alveolate with denticulate-fimbrillate pit-margins. Ray florets 8-10, yellow. Tube 1-2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina narrowly oblong-lorate or oblanceolate, 5-20 mm long, 2-5 mm wide; 4-7(-12)-veined, style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.4-0.8 mm long, with truncate and sometimes minutely penicillate tips. Disc florets c. 30-100. Corolla 3.5-5 mm long. Tube 0.8-1.8 mm long, cylindrical or somewhat inflated below. Limb campanulate, 2.5-3.2 mm long; lobes ovate-lanceolate, 1-1.8 mm long, with subcucullate tips. Anthers 1.7-2.5 mm long incl. the ovate or ovate-oblong, subacute appendage. Style terete with swollen base; stylophore indistinct; style branches 0.3-0.6 mm long, truncate. Pappus bristles few-several, 0.2-1 mm long, white. Achenes (narrowly) obovate or clavate-oblong, often somewhat compressed or angled, 2.5-4 mm long, 1-2 mm wide, shortly hirsute with brownish or greyish white hairs, with c. 10 indistinct nerves or ribs.
