Erect or ascending shrubs or shrublets, 0.3-1 m high, little or moderately branching with usually long and straight erect branches, closely leafy in the upper parts, lower down defoliated and clothed with triangular scale-like dry leaf-bases, mostly glabrous, but sometimes laxly woolly on the young branches. Leaves closely pinnatipartite (`pectinate') with 3-8 pairs of lobes, 1-3 cm long, erecto-patent, glabrous; leaf-lobes opposite or sub-opposite, erecto-patent-spreading, 2-10(-15) mm long, 0.5-1(-1.5) mm wide, subterete-flattened, acutely mucronate or shortly acuminate, sometimes bristle-pointed, the middle lobes the longest; rachis faintly midveined esp. on the adaxial side; leaf-base somewhat dilated. Peduncles terminal, solitary, erect, 1-6 cm long or sometimes shorter, 0.5-0.9 mm thick, terete or faintly sulcate, glabrous but with an inconspicuous tuft of white wool at the base. Involucre widely cupshaped-flattish-campanulate, 1-1.5 cm in diam. Involucral bracts 11-19 (usually 13), uniseriate, connate to 1/3 or almost to the middle, lanceolate-narrowly ovate, 4-6(-7) mm long, 1-2.5 mm wide, acute-acuminate, 3(-5)-lined, often with a blue-purplish hue towards the apex, with minutely puberulous tips. Receptacle convex, at length conical, distinctly alveolate. Ray-florets 11-19, yellow. Tube cylindrical, short, 0.3-0.8 mm long. Lamina elliptic-oblong-narrowly oblong, 7-11 mm long, 2-3.5 mm wide. Style terete; style branches 0.3-0.5 mm long, obtuse-truncate. Disc-florets c. 60-150. Corolla 2.5-3 mm long. Tube cylindrical, 0.7-1 mm long. Limb campanulate, 1.8-2 mm long; lobes deltoid-narrowly ovate, 0.5-1 mm long, with subcucullate tips. Anthers 1-1.2 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse-subacute appendage. Style terete, sterile, tipped with a truncate-emarginate cone, or with short lobes up to 0.4 mm long. Pappus 0. Achenes oblong-obovate, 1.7-2.7 mm long, 0.8-1.3 mm wide, with an apical annulus, yellowish or light brown to blackish, distinctly and densely tuberculate, with c. 10 indistinct coarse ridges.
