Species

Angiosperms > Asterales > Asteraceae > Euryops

Characteristics

Vigorous shrubs up to 1.5 m high, much-branched from the baseT wide and moderately dense, glabrous (except for upper leaf-axils), with often rich surface resin; branches erect-ascending, closely leafy towards the ends, lower down nude and marked with leaf-scars; cortex brown-blackish. Leaves closely set-imbricated, (erecto-patent-)spreading, oblong or oblong-obovate-elliptic-oblong, 0.5-1.5 cm long, 2.5-7 mm wide, flattened, leathery and somewhat fleshy, bright or pure green, obtuse; adaxial side flat or slightly concave, finely midveined(-3-veined); abaxial side somewhat convex and sulcate with an impressed midvein; leaf-margins shortly (and sometimes sparsely) cartilagineo-ciliolate; leaf-axils minutely woolly (in young leaves). Peduncles lateral in the uppermost leaf-axils, usually few (up to 10) on each branch, 2-15 mm long, c. 1 mm thick, terete. Involucre campanulate (oblong when young), c. 4-9 mm in diam. Involucral bracts 5-6, subuniseriate, connate at the very base only, oblong or ovate-oblong-narrowly oblong, 6-8 mm long, 2-4(-5) mm wide, coriaceous, green, distinctly many-veined, obtuse, puberulous-tipped. Receptacle flat or slightly convex, shallowly alveolate. Ray-florets 5-6, yellow. Tube 1.5-2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina oblong-elliptic, 2-6 mm long, c. 2 mm wide, 4-veined. Style terete; style branches 0.7-1 mm long, obtuse-truncate. Disc-florets c. 13-35. Corolla 4.5-5.5 mm long. Tube 1.5-2.5 mm long, cylindrical. Limb narrowly campanulate, 2.8-3.2 mm long; lobes narrowly ovate, 0.7-1 mm long. Anthers c. 2 mm long incl. the ovate obtuse appendage. Style terete with somewhat swollen base on a short stylophore; style branches c. 0.8 mm long, truncate. Pappus bristles numerous-copious, 1-1.5(-2) mm long, erect, white. Achenes narrowly oblong-obovate, 4-5 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, densely lanate with long, white and rather thin hairs, mucilaginous when wet, under the indumentum brown with c. 5-8 faint ribs or nerves.
