Euryops tagetoides (Dc.) B.Nord.

A low, vigorous, little-branched shrub, sometimes more branching and seldom up to 1 m high; stems and branches erect or ascending, stout, leafy towards the tips, lower down nude, greyish-brownish and marked with leaf-scars. Leaves suberect-erecto-patent, (3-)4-10 cm long, pinnatipartite from the base or middle, coriaceous and subrigid, densely tomentose with a silvery white-greyish, short and appressed, matted indumentum, glabrescent with age, faintly midveined or without distinct veins; leaf-lobes 5-8 on each side, erecto-patent-suberect, filiform, subopposite-alternate, 0.5-3 cm long, the basal ones shortest, c. 1(0.6-1.3) mm wide, acute or subacute, sometimes subpungent. Peduncles terminal, solitary, erect, very stout, 12-35 cm long, 2-4 mm thick, striate-sulcate, densely short-tomentose, glabrate with age. Involucre broadly cupshaped, 2-4 cm in diam., 1-1.5 cm high, densely and shortly canescent-tomentose. Involucral bracts 20-25, uniseriate, connate to 1/2-3/4; the free lobes deltoid-lanceolate, 3-6 mm long, acute. Receptacle flat or slightly convex, shallowly alveolate. Ray-florets c. 20-22, orange-coloured. Tube 3-5 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina oblanceolate, 15-38 mm long, 8-10 mm wide, 7-13-veined. Style branches c. 1 mm long. Disc-florets very numerous. Corolla 5-7.5 mm long, tubular, gradually widening above; lobes deltoid-ovate, 1-1.5 mm long. Anthers c. 2.5 mm long incl. the ovate subacute appendage. Style terete with somewhat thickened, at length firm base; style branches c. 1 mm long, with truncate or somewhat convex tips. Pappus bristles copious, 2-5 mm long, after anthesis elongated and aggregated in dense tufts, some barbellate at least basally, others smooth, jointed (made up of 1 cell-row only), very slender, white or fulvous. Achenes elliptic-oblong-oblong-obovate or somewhat obpyriform, 7-8 mm long, 3-4 mm wide, with c. 6 distinct ribs, brown-rufous, densely hirsute between the ribs with short, white, almost papilliform hairs, mucilaginous when soaked.
