A much-branched glabrous shrub, forming dense rounded cushions, 0.3-1.2 m high, leafy in the upper parts, lower down nude and clothed with imbricated, triangular leaf-scars; cortex brown or blackish. Leaves closely set, erecto-patent-spreading, linear, 0.7-3.5 cm long, usually three-lobed above the middle, but sometimes many or all leaves entire or some pinnatipartite, flattened, somewhat fleshy (rugose when dry), midribbed on the abaxial side, especially towards the base, finely impressed-midveined on the adaxial side; lobes and rachis 0.6-1.5 mm wide; leaf lobes 1-12 mm long, obtuse-bluntly acute, somewhat apiculate; leaf-base dilated, almost half-clasping, with laxly ciliated margins. Peduncles terminal, solitary or a few together, erect, 1.5-5 cm long, c. 1 mm thick, striate, with a woolly tuft at the base. Involucre hemispherical, 1-1.5 cm in diam. Involucral bracts c. 13, subuniseriate-subbiseriate, 6-9 mm long, connate to about the middle, somewhat coriaceous, green or brownish, ± distinctly 3-5(-7)-nerved; the free lobes partly overlapping, broadly-narrowly triangular, 3-4(-5) mm long, with puberulous tips and margins. Receptacle convex, alveolate. Ray-florets 10-17, yellow. Tube 1.7-3 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina narrowly elliptic-oblong-oblanceolate, 8-17 mm long, 3-5 mm wide, 4(-7)-nerved. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.7-1 mm long, obtuse. Disc-florets c. 40-60. Corolla 4-5.6 mm long. Tube 2-2.8 mm long, narrowly cylindrical. Limb campanulate, 2-2.8 mm long; lobes narrowly ovate-lanceolate, 1-1.3 mm long. Anthers 1.7-2 mm long incl. the ovate or triangular, obtuse appendage. Style terete with much swollen base; stylophore short; style branches 0.5-0.8 mm long, with convex tips. Pappus bristles copious, 3-4 mm long, erect, ± straight, white, shortly barbellate, some sometimes shorter and reflexed. Achenes oblong-obovate-pyriform, 3-4 mm long, 1.2-2 mm wide, terete or somewhat compressed, densely villous with short, white or brownish hairs, with 8-10 longitudinal ribs under the indumentum.
