Species

Angiosperms > Asterales > Asteraceae > Euryops

Characteristics

Erect little-branched shrubs, c. 1-2 m high, glabrous except for some wool in leaf-axils and at peduncle-bases. Leaves closely set, erecto-patent or ± spreading, often somewhat flexuous, pinnatipartite, 1-3 cm long; rachis and leaf-lobes 0.5-1 mm wide; leaf-lobes 3-6 on each side, alternate-subopposite, spreading, straight or somewhat curved, 1.5-5 mm long, mostly longest towards the leaf apex or around the middle, acuminate with fine white points. Peduncles terminal, often with a tuft of wool surrounding the base, solitary or 2-6 together on the same branch, erect, 6-15 cm long, terete, smooth or faintly striate, straw-coloured or reddish, 0.5-0.8 mm thick. Involucre widely campanulate, 1-1.5 cm in diam., rather flat-based. Involucral bracts uniseriate, 11-13, connate to 1/3-1/2, 5-7 mm long, with 3 to 7 usually yellowish veins; free lobes ovate-lanceolate, 3-5 mm long, acute-acuminate, pale green or somewhat straw-coloured, sometimes with a reddish or brownish tinge, with glabrous margins and minutely puberulous tips. Receptacle convex, shallowly alveolate. Ray-florets 11-13, yellow. Tube 1.5-2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina lorate, 9-15 mm long, 2-3 mm wide, 4-veined. Style sub-terete, thinner towards the base; style branches only c. 0.5 mm long, with rounded tips. Disc-florets c. 25-70. Corolla 3-3.7 mm long. Tube cylindrical, 1-1.5 mm long. Limb campanulate, 2-2.2 mm long; lobes narrowly ovate, 1-1.5 mm long, with a distinct median line, acute. Anthers c. 1.5 mm long incl. the ovate acute appendage. Style terete; style branches 0.3-0.5 mm long with shortly conical tips. Pappus 0. Achenes elliptic-obovate, c. 3 mm long, 1-1.2 mm wide, light brown, glabrous, with c. 10 low longitudinal ribs, otherwise smooth.
