Characteristics

Autoecious; densely matted in rather large patches on bark, but the stems slender and the leaves spreading or suberect even when dry, and small-leaved branches are frequent. Leaves small, 0-75 mm long, widely ovate with short acuminate point or sometimes shortly hair-pointed; nerve absent or very indistinct, its cells almost conforming with other leaf-cells; margin strongly ciliated; branch leaves more acuminate and less regularly ciliated; cells pellucid, widely rhomboid, 40 x 15 µ; alar cells few, quadrate, 10 x 10 µ, marginal cilia hyaline, of one conical, hyaline cell each; per. leaves erect, somewhat sheathing, long-pointed, somewhat ciliated; capsule erect, ovate, with short neck, when dry contracted below the mouth. Male flowers bud-like, basal.
