Characteristics

Tufted annual herb; stems up to 250 mm, erect or decumbent, closely leafy throughout. Leaves sessile, up to 20 x 3 mm, oblong or spathulate-oblong, apex and mucronate, margins entire, somewhat revolute, green above, grey-or white-woolly below. Heads oblong, c. 14 x 4 mm, solitary and terminal on very short leafy shoots, many crowded at the ends of the branches in a racemose inflorescence. Involucral bracts graded, innermost blotched purple towards the tips. Flowers hidden by the copious pappus, nondescript, hermaphrodite ones purple-tipped. Achenes 1.5 mm long. Pappus bristles fine, white, silky-plumose.

Tufted, erect or decumbent, annual herb, up to 0.25 m high. Leaves alternate, sessile, oblong or spathulate-oblong, apex truncate, entire, green above, grey-or white-woolly below. Capitula disciform, terminally racemosely crowded together. Ray florets filiform, purple. Disc florets narrowly tubular, purple. Flowering time Sept. Pappus of plumose bristles, bases connate in a ring. Cypselae turbinate, hairy.
Stems usually with decumbent to nearly procumbent branches arising from bases, 3–30 cm, loosely tomentose. Leaves crowded; blades 7–20(–30) × 1.5–4 mm, apices truncate-apiculate to retuse. Heads: clusters subtended by bractlike leaves. Cypselae 1.6 mm; pappi 10–11 mm. 2n = 14.
