Characteristics

Corolla clavate, acute or shortly acuminate-tailed at the apex in bud; tube green or white, 20–30 mm long, tubular, usually distinctly curved, widened towards the apex, always glabrous outside, 3–4 mm wide at the base, 5–9 mm wide at the apex, glabrous above inside, pubescent in the lower two thirds but without a ring of deflexed hairs; lobes cream or white, often green outside, 8–13 × 2.5–4 mm, triangular-lanceolate, shortly appendaged, reflexed.

Leaves in whorls of 3 or 4, blades 1–6 × 0.2–1.6 cm, narrowly oblong or elliptic to oblanceolate, acute at the apex, narrowed to the base, ± sessile; stipule bases short, c. 1 mm long with subulate appendage 1–2.5 mm long, densely hairy inside.
A herb. It can have fine hairs. It grows from a woody rootstock. There are several stems 30-90 cm tall. These are often 3 angled. The leaves are in rings of 3 or 4. The flowers can occur singly or in 3 flowered groups. They are cream or white.
Flowers scented, solitary, or sometimes apparently in 3-flowered inflorescences but actually terminating in short leafless shoots.
Suffrutex, glabrous or finely pubescent, ± glaucous, from a thick woody rootstock; stems several, 30–90 cm tall, often trigonous.
Calyx tube c. 2 mm long, campanulate, ± ribbed in dry state; the limb spreading, c. 1 mm long, undulate or with short teeth.
Anthers exserted, shortly appendaged at base and apex; filaments 3 mm long.
Pollen presenter large and coroniform, 4 × 5 mm, conspicuously lobed.
Style 30–40 mm long, thickened at base.
