Characteristics

Stems including scape to 1 m tall. Leaves to 35 cm long, but mostly less than 15 cm, to 5-furcate. Floral bracts ovate-rhombic, 4-5 mm long. Flowers vanilla-scented. Perianth tube and pedicel together 45-70 mm long; segments slightly separated towards apex; lobes lanceolate, 18-28 mm long, acuminate, reddish brown outside, creamy white inside. Nut narrowly fusiform, 17-19 mm long, hirsute at base, glabrous and ribbed above, surmounted by a hirsute, twisted column 4-6 cm long and 3 awns 6-7 cm long.
