Characteristics

Plants 80-200 mm high. Corm conic, 10-15 mm diam., tunics of fine-medium-textured fibres. Stem suberect, smooth, usually branched. Leaves 7 to 10, suberect, usually ± 1/3 as long as stem, oblong, (15-)20-80 x 3-9 mm, obtuse-apiculate, margins sometimes slightly undulate, soft-textured with moderately thickened main vein. Spike slightly deflexed to horizontal, (4-)8-to 10(-15)-flowered; bracts obovate, soft-textured, herbaceous, 4.0-5.5 mm long, green below but soon becoming pale, flushed pinkish distally with reddish veins, inner slightly shorter. Flowers 25-30 mm long, bright pink, lower 3 or only median tepal with whitish or pale yellowish blotch at base outlined with dark pink, unscented or lightly scented; perianth tube subcylindric, 15-20 mm long, straight or slightly curved in upper 5 mm; tepals subequal or upper 3 slightly larger, spreading, elliptic to oblanceolate, 8-11 x 3-4 mm. Filaments arcuate, 6-7 mm long, inserted 4-5 mm within tube, shortly exserted; anthers ± 3 mm long. Style dividing opposite middle of anthers. Capsules short-oblong to subglobose, 6-7 x 6 mm, papillate. Seeds subglobose, 1.5-2.0 mm diam., smooth, glossy reddish brown.
