Characteristics

A bushy shrub. It can also be a climber. It grows 0.6-5 m high. The leaves are opposite and sword shaped. They have a pointed tip and base. The edges of the leaves can be smooth or have teeth. The flowers are white to red-purple tubes.

Open places in oak and pine woods in Hidalgo. Mexico, Michoacan and Jalisco Counties. Mostly in dense, moist or wet, mixed forest, sometimes in low thickets or in exposed rocky places at elevations of 1,200-3,800 metres in Guatemala.
