Characteristics

Small tree or shrub 4.5–6 m. tall, glabrous; branches ± slender, at first 4-angled, at length round, smooth or rather rough; bark green, smooth.. Leaves opposite; blades oblong or ovate-oblong, 7–15 cm. long, 3–7 cm. wide, obtuse or shortly and bluntly acuminate at the apex, cuneate at the base, papery; venation slightly prominent, crossed by linear gland channels; petiole 0.6–1.4 cm. long, channelled above, slender, greenish yellow or orange, without a ligule.. Male flowers arranged in terminal or axillary (2–)3–10-flowered cymes, pedunculate; bracts triangular; pedicels thick, green, 2–5 mm. long, 4-angled.. Sepals 4, round, 3–3.5 mm. long, rounded at the apex, the 2 outer thicker and green, the 2 inner 3.5–5.5 mm. long and resembling the petals in form and colour.. Petals 4, greenish white, obovate, ± 7 mm. long.. Staminal bundles 2, opposite the outer sepals, each with 3–4 oblong curved non-septate sessile or subsessile anthers; filaments ± 3 mm. long.. Rudimentary ovary 2–2.5 mm. tall; stigma fleshy, punctate.. Female flowers and fruits unknown.
