Characteristics

Tree to 15 m high, dioecious; exudate white or colourless. Twigs square, narrowly 4-winged when young. Leaves glabrous; petiole 5–7 mm long, channelled, ligulate; lamina discolorous, coriaceous, narrowly to broadly elliptic, ovate-elliptic or obovate, 5.2–16 cm long, 2–7.2 cm wide, base cuneate, attenuate or decurrent, margin entire, apex acute, retuse-acute or rounded-acute; venation brochidodromous, primary vein on upperside flush or slightly raised, distinctly raised on underside, secondary veins 7–10 pairs, slightly raised on both surfaces, angle of divergence from primary vein c. 45o, forming intramarginal loops 0.4–1.4 mm from margin. Male inflorescences axillary, a fascicle or raceme, 5–many-flowered, rachis to 3.5 mm long. Male flowers 7–8 mm diam.; sepals 4, 2-whorled, outer pair joined, D-shaped, c. 1.6 mm long, inner pair free, petal-like, orbicular, c. 4 mm long; petals 4, orbicular, c. 4 mm long; androecium 4-phalangiate; phalanges antepetalous; pistillode fungiform, c. 3 mm long. Female inflorescences terminal or axillary, supra-axillary or ramiflorous, a solitary flower, fascicle or condensed raceme, 3–9-flowered. Female flowers 4.5–6.5 mm diam.; sepals 4, 2-whorled, outer pair joined, D-shaped, c. 1 mm long, inner pair free, petal-like, orbicular, 1.2–2 mm long; petals 4, orbicular, c. 2 mm long; gynoecium fungiform, unlobed; ovary 2-locular. Fruit a fleshy berry, globose or ellipsoid-globose, 12.5–15.5 mm long, 11–16 mm wide, pink or reddish, stigma at apex 3–3.8 mm diam.
