Tree 3–15 m.; branchlets slightly wrinkled and nodes rough with old petiole-bases.. Leaves opposite; blades usually drying olive-brown above, reddish brown beneath, elliptic, (12–)19–25 cm. long, (4.5–)7–16.5 cm. wide, rounded or obscurely subacute at the apex, cuneate at the base, slightly shining above, the margins slightly crinkly, coriaceous; lateral nerves 24–35 pairs, with many additional less pronounced intermediate ones; petiole: 1–2 cm. long.. Flowers l–2(or ? more) at leafless nodes; pedicels 1.8–3.1 cm. long; 3 outer sepals round to elliptic, 6–7 mm. long, 4–6.5 mm. wide; 2 inner sepals round, 1.1 cm. long, 1 cm. wide; petals pale yellow, obovate with thin edges, 1.2–1.6 cm. long, 0.9–1.3 cm. wide.. Male flowers: stamens very numerous, free on an elevated annulus 7–8 mm. in diameter; filaments 5–6 mm. long; anthers 0.8 mm. long.. Hermaphrodite flowers: stamens numerous; filaments 4 mm. long; ovary resting on a very short thick gynophore slightly narrower than the ovary, 3 mm. tall, rugose and pitted; ovary conic, 6 mm. long, the base ± crenulate, 3-locular; stigma peltate, roundedly 3-lobed, 4 mm. wide..
