Characteristics

Plants acaulescent, decumbent to erect, 25-230 mm tall, 75-230 mm in diameter, prolific from the base to form small groups. Roots succulent, up to 5 mm in diameter. Leaves distichous, 15-230 mm long, 22-80 mm broad at the base, lorate, rarely triangular-lanceolate; inner leaves erect to erectly spreading, becoming patent (rarely recurved); apices becoming incurved during the dry season; adaxial surface convex to flat; abaxial surface flat; epidermis smooth, dark green; both surfaces with dense white spots arranged in obscure transverse bands; margin wavy, crenulate, becoming continuous towards the apex; apex acute, obtuse or truncate. Juvenile leaves lorate, asperulous, and densely spotted; apex obtuse. Inflorescence racemose, simple or with a pair of side branches, 0.2-0.9(-1.11) m tall; pedicel 5-7 mm long. Perianth 12-22 mm long, stipitate for 2-3 mm, gasteriform basally for more than half its length, thence constricted to a tube 3-4 mm in diameter, the gasteriform portion pink, 5-7 mm in diameter, globose or globose-elliptic; tube white with green striations; apices erectly spreading. Anthers oblong, 2 mm long, not protruding. Style 7-10 mm long included; stigma minute, exceeding the anthers after anthesis. Capsule oblong 15-23 mm long, 7 mm broad. Seeds 3-4 mm long, 2-3 mm wide. Flowering time July to February, but mainly in September and October.
