Characteristics

Plants acaulescent, decumbent to erect, 30-180 mm tall, proliferating from the base to form small dense groups 150-600(-800) mm in diameter. Roots succulent, up to 6 mm in diameter. Leaves distichous at first, becoming rosulate, spirally arranged or remaining distichous, 30-180(-120) mm long and 10-45(-50) mm broad at the base, triangular to triangular-lanceolate, rarely lorate or ensiform, erectly spreading, lower leaves becoming spreading; adaxial surface plane or channelled; abaxial surface keeled or convex; both surfaces tuberculate or smooth, rarely asperulous, spotted with raised or immersed white, domed tubercles in obscure transverse bands; margin cartilaginous, tuberculate-crenulate, rarely denticulate; apex acute, rarely obtuse, truncate or retuse, mucronate. Juvenile leaves distichous, erectly spreading, smooth or tuberculate, lorate; apex obtuse, mucronate. Inflorescence racemose 150-700(-900) mm tall, spreading and slightly curved; scape 4-12 mm broad at the base; bracts 6-15 mm long, 3-5 mm broad at the base; floral bracts 6-12 mm long, 2.4 mm broad at the base, piliferous; pedicel 7-15 mm long. Perianth variable, 16-27 mm long, stipitate for 2-3 mm, gasteriform basally for more than half its length, thence constricted to a tube 3-5 mm in diameter; the gasteriform portion pink narrow-elliptic, rarely globose-elliptic, 6-8 mm in diameter; the tube white with green striations; apices of inner and outer segments obtuse, erectly spreading, light pink or white with centric green striations; margin of inner segments free and channelled for the length of the gasteriform portion. Stamens oblong, 2 mm long and included. Ovary 6-7 mm long and 2.5 mm broad; style 14 mm long. Capsule 19-23 mm long, oblong and 7 mm broad. Seeds 3-4 mm long and 2 mm wide. Flowering time July to November.
