Characteristics

Plant acaulescent, decumbent, 300 mm tall, up to 350 mm diam., proliferating from base and cluster-forming (3-8 heads). Roots succulent, up to 5 mm diam. Leaves rosulate, deltoid-lanceolate to linear, 150-300 mm long, 20-45 mm broad at base, falcate and curving upwards, sometimes twisted and unevenly parallel; adaxial surface flat to shallowly canaliculate, plane towards apex, faintly to densely white-spotted; abaxial surface somewhat convex with a distinct eccentric keel, faintly to densely spotted, spots arranged in obscure transverse bands; both surfaces shiny, light to dark green, with smooth epidermis; margin minutely denticulate to almost entire, apex acute or subacute, sometimes acuminate, mucronate. Juvenile leaves distichous, lorate, patent to ascending; epidermis similar to adult leaves, densely white-spotted, spots arranged in transverse bands; apex obtuse, mucronate. Inflorescence racemose, secundly arranged and open at the same time, up to 700 mm long, Scape 5-7 mm broad at base, flattened; floral bracts 7 x 2 mm, piliferous (peduncular bracts present, slightly larger); pedicels 5 mm long, pink. Perianth 20-21 mm long, gasteriform, stipitate for 2 mm; segments fused for their greater length (except the perianth apices and margins of the inner 3 segments), subcylindrical, curved in the upper third, the lower portion (two thirds of the length) of perianth slightly decurved, inflated to about 5-6 mm, pink, upper half white with green striations; apices erect becoming erectly spreading, obtuse; margins of inner segments free and channelled at base for 7 mm, diverging gradually towards apex. Stamens 10-12 mm long; anthers 2 x 1 mm long, included. Ovary 5-6 mm long, 2-3 mm diam., green; style 7 mm long, stigma included, minute. Capsule 22-30 mm long, narrow obovate, triangular in cross section, obtuse at apex, 6-8 mm diam. Seeds blackish.
