Plants acaulescent, decumbent to erect, 60-200 mm tall, 50-280 mm in diameter, solitary or proliferating from the base to form small groups. Roots succulent, up to 12 mm in diameter, linear-obclavate, gradually dilating from the tip upwards. Leaves at first distichous, becoming rosulate, or remaining distichous, 16-180 mm long, 25-80 mm broad at the base, triangular-lanceolate, rarely lanceolate-acuminate, erectly spreading adaxial surface canaliculate; abaxial surface somewhat convex with a distinct excentric keel; both surfaces dark green, with faint to dense white spots arranged in irregular transverse bands; epidermis smooth and shiny; margin entire or indistinctly tuberculate; apex acute, mucronate. Juvenile leaves distichous, lorate, 20-40 mm long, 20-35 mm broad at base, erectly spreading at first, becoming patent or recurved; epidermis tuberculate; tubercles domed or subconical, sometimes confluent forming ridges, rarely smooth, dark green, not spotted or rarely spotted; lower surface asperulous; apex obtuse or truncate, mucronate; plants rarely remain in the distichous phase. Inflorescence an erectly spreading lax panicle, 0.2-1.2 m long, up to 0.5 m in diameter, or racemose; scape 3-10 mm in diameter at base, branched from the upper half bearing 1 to 3 erectly spreading side branches; lower bracts 20 mm long, 10 mm broad at the base; floral bracts 8 mm long and 3 mm broad at the base; pedicel 7-8 mm long. Perianth 20-25 mm long, bright reddish pink, stipitate for 2-3 mm, gasteriform basally for slightly more than half its length; the gasteriform portion 5-8 mm in diameter (narrow-elliptic), thence constricted into a tube 4-5 mm wide; apices erectly spreading obtuse, yellowish; inner segments canaliculate for the length of the gasteriform portion. Stamens 18-22 mm long, anthers 2 mm long oblong, not protruding. Ovary 6 mm long and 2 mm in diameter; style 13-15 mm long, exceeding the anthers after anthesis; stigma minute, becoming capitate during anthesis, included Capsule 24-30 mm long, 8 mm in diameter. Seeds 3-4 mm long, 2 mm wide. Flowering time December to February.
