Characteristics

Flower stem 0.6–1.2 m tall, stout, dark brown to blackish, fleshy, erect in bud, 5–75-flowered. Flowers tubular, held more or less horizontal to semi-nodding, 20–25 mm long, externally cinnamon brown, rough and warty, crystalline white within, fragrant. Petal margins irregular or wavy. Labellum 14–17 × 5–8 mm, white with thick orange margins, 3-lobed; lateral lobes narrowly triangular, curved forwards; midlobe with broadly rounded basal margins, irregular and crinkled towards apex. Callus of 2 yellow to orange ridges, spreading then convergent, breaking up into irregular, thick ridges on midlobe; pseudopollen dark yellow, variable in abundance between populations. Column 12–15 × 3.5–4.5 mm.
