Characteristics

Perennial herb, up to 300 mm high, stemless or with erect stems. Leaves in rosettes in stemless specimens or alternate along stem, sessile; blade linear, up to 100 x 7 mm, apex acute or obtuse, margins entire or distantly and minutely denticulate, scaberulous, glabrescent, ciliate along petiole-like base, gland-pitted. Heads radiate, solitary in leaf axils or in small groups in leaf axils in stemless specimens. Involucre ± 10 mm in diameter; involucral bracts ± 3-seriate, subequal. Receptacle paleate. Flowers: ray and disc florets yellow; Dec.-Apr. Fruit with cypsela turbinate, silky pilose. Pappus of 10 scales, alternate ones tipped with slender awn.
