Characteristics

Plants 200-300 mm high. Corm globose, symmetric 7-10 mm diam.; tunics papery, light brown, notched or torn below, not accumulating. Stem unbranched. Leaves (2)3, lowermost basal and longest, linear, 2-3 mm wide, with 2 narrow grooves on each surface, margins and midrib much thickened, second leaf inserted near ground level, sheathing lower part of stem, with short free blade, uppermost leaf inserted in middle of stem, sheathing almost entirely. Spike flexuose, 3-to 5-flowered; bracts 7-10 mm long, dry and membranous above. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, blue-violet; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 2-3 mm long; tepals obovate-elliptic, 11-13 x 5 mm, spreading. Filaments erect, equal, 4-5 mm long; anthers ± 4 mm long, yellow. Style dividing near apex of anthers. Capsules globose, 5-6 mm long.
