Characteristics

Plants 140-250 mm high. Corm globose with one side flattened below, 7-10 mm diam.; tunics concentric, dark brown. Stem ± erect, simple or branched from upper 1 or 2 nodes. Leaves (3)4 or 5, erect to falcate, at least lower 3 basal, (2-)3-6 mm wide, sword-shaped to ± linear, reaching base of spike or only 1/2-1/3 as long as stem, upper leaf cauline, smaller than basal, sometimes ± bract-like. Spike 2-to 4-flowered; bracts 12-14 mm long, soft-textured, becoming reddish distally and on veins, inner usually shorter than outer. Flowers ± salver-shaped, purple with darker markings in lower midline of tepals (± colourless when dry); perianth tube 6-10 mm long, cylindric, initially reaching to ± apex of bracts, later shortly exserted; tepals obovate, 15-20 x 7-8 mm. Filaments equal, 6-11 mm long; anthers 5-6 mm long; pollen yellow. Style dividing opposite apex of anthers, branches up to 3 mm long. Capsules 7-9 mm long, ovoid.
