Characteristics

Plants mostly 200-350 mm high. Corm globose, 10-12 mm diam.; tunics brown, ± imbricate, papery, notched below into sections and drawn into short points above. Stem simple or 1-to 3-branched, flexed at base of spike, bearing in addition to cauline leaf, 1 or 2 short sheathing scale-like bracts. Leaves (2)3, lower 1 or 2 basal, reaching to ± base of spike, uppermost inserted on lower part of stem, sheathing for some distance, linear, 1.5-4.0 mm wide, margins and main vein thickened, surfaces thus 2-grooved, sometimes sticky below and with sand adhering. Flowers zygomorphic, ± salver-shaped, stamens and style declinate, pink with dark markings at bases of tepals, pale in tube; perianth tube cylindric, 15-18 mm long, slightly exceeding bracts; tepals ellipsoid, 22-30 x 6.5-9.0 mm. Filaments unequal, unilateral, declinate, two longer 11-18 mm long, shorter one 7-12 mm long; anthers 5-6 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style dividing opposite upper 1/3 to apex of anthers, branches 4-5 mm long. Capsules obovoid to globose, 5-8 mm long, enclosed in bracts.
