Characteristics

Plants small, 70-150(-250) mm high. Corm ± ovoid, asymmetric, obliquely flattened on one side, 5-7 mm diam.; tunics concentric, woody, brown. Stem ± erect or inclined, smooth, rarely branched. Leaves 3, lower 2 basal, longest, linear, erect to falcate, 1-2 mm wide, slightly longer than stem, margins and midrib much enlarged, with 2 narrow grooves on each surface, edges of margin and main vein smooth or minutely ciliate, usually sticky, with sand adhering, uppermost leaf cauline, short and sheathing below or entirely, sheath ribbed. Spike 2-to 5-flowered, flexuose; bracts with hyaline or reddish margins, 7-9 mm long, sticky, inner shorter than outer. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, white to creamy white, often with outer tepals pink to red outside, tepals spreading; perianth tube 3-4 mm long, not or barely exceeding bracts; tepals narrowly elliptic, 10-15 x 5-8 mm. Filaments erect, equal, 3-4 mm long; anthers ± 3 mm long, yellow. Style dividing ± opposite apex of anthers, branches ± 2.5 mm long. Capsules ± obovoid-oblong, 5-8 mm long, exserted from bracts.
