Plants 120-250 mm high. Corm ovoid-globose, 6-8 mm diam., with several cormlets at base; tunics dark brown to ± black, imbricate, notched below. Stem ± erect or inclined, simple or 1-to 3-branched, lightly papillose-puberulous, usually bearing a short leafy bract from the upper node. Leaves usually 3, flat, sword-shaped, ± erect to falcate, margins and main vein slightly raised, smooth, shorter to somewhat longer than stem, 4-10 mm wide, lower two basal, third basal or inserted above ground and sheathing for some distance. Spike 2-to 7-flowered, usually flexed below first flower and secund; bracts green below, drying and becoming pale and membranous above, rarely ± brown at apex, 10-15(-18) mm long, spreading in upper 1/2, inner bract shorter than outer. Flower zygomorphic, light purple, white in throat and tube; perianth tube 2-3 mm long, funnel-shaped; tepals 20-23 x 4-6 mm wide. Filaments unilateral, declinate, unequal, two longer 8-10 mm long, shorter one 5-6 mm long; anthers inclined to horizontal, 5-6 mm long, one slightly shorter, white; pollen white. Style dividing near apex of anthers, branches ± 3 mm long, recurved. Capsules oblong, 5-8 mm long, ± 3.5 mm diam., shorter than bracts.
