Characteristics

Plants (50-)120-300(-400) mm high. Corm ± ovoid, 7-12 mm diam.; tunics blackish, imbricate, outer layers notched regularly below into sections. Stem smooth, sheathed below by uppermost leaf, rarely branched. Leaves 3, lower 2 basal, usually 1/2-2/3 as long as stem, sometimes exceeding spike, linear-sword-shaped, (1.5-)3.0-4.0(-10.0) mm wide, margins extended outward at right angles to blade, main vein also raised and winged, with wing edges minutely hairy, uppermost leaf basal or more often cauline, sheathing for most of its length, sheath ribbed and minutely hairy, slightly inflated. Spike (3)4-to 7-flowered, flexed at base; bracts usually ± dry at anthesis, reddish brown, occasionally greenish below, outer 8-16 mm long, inner somewhat smaller than outer. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, creamy white to pale yellow, outer tepals usually flushed pink to red outside, sometimes dark at base of tepals and in throat; perianth tube short 1.5-2.0 mm long; tepals obovate-elliptic, (8-)10-15(-18) x 5-7 mm. Filaments suberect, equal, 4-5 mm long; anthers (2.5-)4.0-6.0 mm long. Style dividing near apex of anthers, branches ± 3 mm long, recurved above. Capsules globose-ellipsoid, 3-6 mm long.
