Characteristics

Plants slender, mostly 150-350 mm high. Corm globose, 5-9 mm diam., tunics light brown, concentric, woody, outer layers breaking irregularly, drawn into bristles above. Stem slightly inclined, flexed at base of spike, and sometimes above sheath of cauline leaf, rarely 1-branched. Leaves 3, lower 2 basal, terete, ± erect, reaching to ± middle of spike, with 4 narrow longitudinal grooves, uppermost leaf cauline, sheathing stem for ± half its length, 20-40 mm long, sheaths of lower leaves usually sticky. Spike inclined, 3-to 8(-13)-flowered; bracts 5-8 mm long, pale green to brown below, membranous above, curving outward in upper half, inner shorter than outer. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, white to pale yellow, outer tepals often reddish or brown outside; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 2-3 mm long; tepals elliptic, mostly 8-12 x 3.0-5.5 mm. Filaments erect, equal, 2-3(-5) mm long; anthers 2-4 mm long, white or pale yellow. Style 6-12 mm long, dividing above apex of anthers, branches 1.2-2.5 mm long. Capsules ± globose, 3.3-4.5 mm long.
