Characteristics

Plants mostly 200-350 mm high. Corm ovoid, symmetric, 5-8 mm diam.; tunics dark brown to blackish, imbricate, outer layers regularly notched below into sections. Stem sparsely ciliate, simple or 1-or 2-branched from axil of cauline leaf. Leaves 3, lower 2 basal, linear to sword-shaped, usually shorter than stem, 3-6 mm wide, apparently plane but margins raised into narrow, ascending wings ciliate along edges, main vein also slightly raised, winged and sparsely ciliate along edges, uppermost leaf cauline, sheathing for at least half its length. Spike flexed at base, mostly 3-to 6-flowered, flexuose; bracts ± membranous, dry and pale brown above, outer 12-16 mm long, inner smaller than outer. Flowers actinomorphic, upright to half nodding, shallowly cupped, stark white, greenish in throat (sometimes palest pink on fading); perianth tube funnel-shaped, 1.5-2.0 mm long; tepals narrowly obovate, 18-26 x 5-11 mm. Filaments suberect, equal (rarely upper filament slightly shorter), 7-8 mm long; anthers 6.5-8.0 mm long, bright yellow; pollen yellow. Style dividing opposite or slightly above anther tips, branches 4-6 mm long. Capsules globose, ± 5 mm long.
