Plants (100-)150-200 mm high. Corm ovoid, 7-9 mm diam.; tunics blackish, imbricate, notched into regular segments below. Stem flexed at base of spike, sheathed for 1/2-2/3 its length, occasionally 1-branched. Leaves 3, linear to nearly terete, reaching to ± base of spike, 1-2 mm wide, narrowly 4-to 6(-8)-grooved, lower 2 basal, uppermost basal or inserted shortly above ground, largest, sheathing stem below, sheath ribbed and inflated. Spike flexuose, inclined, 2-to 7-flowered; bracts green, margin often lined red above, usually becoming dry and membranous near apex, 8-10 mm long, inner shorter than outer. Flower actinomorphic, rotate, tepals somewhat cupped, bright yellow; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 4-6 mm long, nearly reaching apex of bracts; tepals elliptic, 18-28 x 7-9 mm. Filaments erect, unequal, two longer 7-9 mm long, shorter one 5-7 mm long; anthers 4.5-6.0 mm long, yellow; pollen yellow. Style dividing near apex of anthers, branches ± 2 mm long.
