Characteristics

Plants 100-160 mm high. Corm globose, asymmetric with obliquely flattened side extending downward, ± 6 mm diam.; tunics ± concentric, light brown, outer layers apparently brittle-papery. Stem usually prostrate below, upright above, simple or branched from base or upper nodes, bearing cormlets at lower nodes. Leaves 3 to 6, falcate, at least lower 2 basal, 4-10 mm wide, 1/3-2/3 as long as stem, upper leaves cauline and progressively smaller, uppermost often entirely sheathing. Spike 2-or 3-flowered; bracts 8-10 mm long, green, ± membranous above, inner slightly shorter than outer. Flowers rotate, blue-purple; perianth tube 2-3 mm long, cylindric, included in bracts; tepals obovate, 14-16 x ± 6 mm wide. Filaments equal, ± 6 mm long; anthers ± 5 mm long; pollen yellow. Style dividing ± opposite middle of anthers, branches 4-5 mm long.
