Characteristics

Plants 50-120(-170) mm high. Corm globose, ± symmetric, 5-7 mm diam.; tunics ± black, imbricate, notched below into sections. Stem usually unbranched. Leaves 3, linear to narrowly sword-shaped, 2-to 4-ribbed, margins thickened, lower 2 basal, uppermost cauline and largest, half as long to ± as long as spike, with inflated, strongly ridged sheath. Spike inclined, flexuose, (1-)3-to 5-flowered; bracts green, sometimes dry distally, 7-8 mm long. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, pale yellow with dark brown or purple centre, tepals spreading, often flushed red outside; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 2-4 mm long; tepals ± elliptic, 10-17(22) x 7-8 mm. Filaments erect, equal, 5-6 mm long, often dark coloured in lower 1/2; anthers 4-6 mm long, yellow. Style dividing opposite apex of anthers, branches ± 2.5 mm long.
