Characteristics

Plants 80-150(-200) mm high. Corm globose, 8-10 mm diam.; tunics brown, firm to soft-membranous, imbricate, regularly notched below. Stem upright or inclined, simple, minutely ciliate-papillose, bearing a sheathing scale-like bract in upper 1/3. Leaves 3, lower 2 basal, lowermost longest, reaching at least to base of spike, sheath sticky and with sand adhering, second leaf sheathing lower part of stem for a short distance, uppermost inserted in upper part of stem, short, sheathing for at least 1/2 its length, blades linear, 1-2 mm wide, margins raised as narrow wings at right angles to lamina, main vein thickened. Spike inclined, flexuose, 2-to 5(-7)-flowered; bracts green in bud, becoming dry and membranous above, outer 3.5-5.0 mm long, inner slightly shorter. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, pale blue-violet, creamy white in throat and tube; perianth tube funnel-shaped, 3-4 mm long, reaching or shortly exceeding bracts; tepals elliptic, 8-9 x ± 3 mm. Filaments suberect, unequal, longer two ± 3 mm long, shorter one ± 2 mm long; anthers ± 2.3 mm long, yellow. Style dividing opposite upper 1/3 of anthers, branches ± 1 mm long. Capsules globose, up to 4 mm long, included in bracts. Seeds unknown.
