Plants 120-300 mm high. Corm globose, 3.5-6.0 mm diam., remains of older corms sometimes persisting below; tunics either membranous to soft papery and usually hardly accumulating, or composed of medium to fine netted fibres. Stem erect or inclined, simple (rarely 1-branched). Leaves 3, lower 2 basal, lowermost longest, second leaf shorter and sheathing lower part of stem for a short distance, linear (to subterete) to falcate, 1/3 to as long as stem, 1-2 mm wide, oblong in section, margins and main vein thickened, 2-grooved on each surface uppermost leaf inserted on lower 1/3 of stem, sheathing for at least 2/3 to almost entirely. Spike lax, 2-to 4(-10)-flowered; bracts 6-8(-10) mm long, green or becoming dry in upper half. Flowers actinomorphic, rotate, white, outer tepals often pink or reddish outside especially with age; perianth tube 2.5-4.0 mm long; tepals ± elliptic, 10-13 x 5-7 mm. Filaments erect, equal, 4-5 mm long; anthers 3-4 mm long, pale yellow. Style branching opposite upper 1/3 of anthers, branches ± 1.5 mm long. Capsules globose, 5-6 mm long.
