Characteristics

Bulbous geophyte, ± 150-300 mm tall. Leaves 15-25, dry at flowering, suberect, spiralled, firm, shiny green, margins fringed with rigid, upturned hairs, surrounded by a mostly subterranean, pale sheath that becomes spotted with maroon when exposed. Flower large, cup-shaped, ivory to deep pink, waxy, anthers > 20 in 6 clusters. Fruit fleshy, yellow.
