Flowers cream, the tepals symmetrically disposed, fragrant; perianth tube 5–7.5 cm long, cylindric, very slightly expanded in the upper third; tepals subequal, 18–22 mm long, lanceolate, the inner 3 slightly shorter than the outer.
Stem erect, unbranched, the lower half sheathed by the leaves, the upper half naked or sometimes with a short sheathing bract 2–3 cm below the first flower.
Spike (1)2–4-flowered; bracts green or membranous, usually dry and brownish above at anthesis, 15–20 mm long, the inner as long as the outer, bifid.
Leaves 2–3, inserted on the lower half of the stem, almost entirely sheathing, 4–8 cm long, sometimes with short non-sheathing blades 1–3 cm long.
Corms 12–18 mm in diameter; tunics brittle-papery, usually broken into vertical fibres below.
Filaments unilateral, exserted c. 2 mm from the tube; anthers c. 7 mm long.
Style dividing close to the anther apices, style branches 3–4 mm long.
Capsules 13–15 mm long, ellipsoid to narrowly obovoid.
Plants 25–35 cm high.
