Characteristics

Plants 30-45 cm. high.. Corms 1.5-2 cm. in diameter, tunics initially membranous, becoming ± fibrous externally, fibres straw-coloured, mostly vertical, enclosing a few small cormlets.. Leaves 4-5, the lower 2-3 ± basal and usually longest, narrowly lanceolate, reaching to ± the base of the spike, 4-7 mm. wide, the upper 2 leaves cauline, becoming ± entirely sheathing, all fairly soft-textured, the midrib and margins hardly thickened.. Stem evidently erect, unbranched, 2-3 mm. in diameter at the base of the spike.. Spike erect, 2-6-flowered; bracts green, soft-textured, the outer 3.3-3.8 cm. long, the inner 2/3 as long as the outer.. Flowers white to cream, fading to pale salmon or pink, the lower 3 tepals sometimes each with a median pale yellow mark in the midline; perianth-tube narrowly funnel-shaped, 3.3-3.5 cm. long, the lower cylindrical part ± 2.3 cm. long, the wider upper part 1 cm. long; tepals lanceolate, ± equal in length, 2.8-3 cm. long, the dorsal widest and horizontal, broadly lanceolate, ± 1.7 cm. wide, the other tepals narrowly lanceolate, 5-8 mm. wide, the lower 3 ± horizontal, joined together for ± 2 mm., in profile appearing 3-5 mm. longer than the dorsal.. Filaments ± 1.5 cm. long, barely exserted from the tube for ± 2 mm.; anthers 1.2-1.3 cm. long, reaching to ± the middle of the dorsal tepal, with acute apiculate appendages ± 1-2 mm. long.. Style arched over the stamens, dividing just below the apex of the anthers, branches ± 3.2 mm. long, widened above.. Capsules unknown.
