Characteristics

Plants 50-75 cm. high.. Corm 1.8-2.5 cm. in diameter, tunics brown, membranous, becoming torn irregularly from the base, possibly always with small cormlets around the base.. Leaves several, ± as long as the stems, lanceolate to linear, 8-15 mm. wide, the lower 3-5 basal and longest, the upper cauline and progressively shorter.. Stem unbranched, sometimes inclined or drooping, ± 3 mm. in diameter at the base of the spike.. Spike 3-5-flowered; bracts green, lanceolate-attenuate, 3-4(-5) cm. long, the inner shorter than the outer.. Flowers red to deep pink, the lower 3 tepals white to cream at the base and each with a narrow cream to yellow median streak; perianth-tube 2.5-3 cm. long, narrowly funnel-shaped, the lower slender part 2 cm. long, abruptly expanded above, tepals unequal, the dorsal largest, ± arched over the stamens, (2.5-)4-5.5 cm. long, 2.2-3 cm. wide, upper lateral tepals 2.5-4 cm. long, ± 1.5 cm. wide, lower tepals ± horizontal, 2.2-3.5 cm. long.. Filaments 1.8-4.5 cm. long, exserted from the tube for 2-3 cm.; anthers (6-)12-14 mm. long.. Style arched over the stamens, dividing at or beyond the anther-apices, branches 4-6 mm..
