Cormous geophyte, up to 2 m high, conspicuously hairy. Leaves narrow and exceeding spikes, in a lax fan, usually some distance above ground; blade with a prominent midrib, sometimes secondary veins too. Flowers: in a 12-20-flowered spike; bracteoles with free margins; perianth cream-coloured, yellow or in various shades of pink, lavender-coloured or wine-red, plain or faintly spotted; Dec.-Feb.
