Characteristics

Leaves mostly ternate, very rarely all opposite; petiole 5–17 mm long; lamina leathery or slightly fleshy, yellowish or fresh-green, 6–13 × 3–8 cm, elliptic, blunt or rounded at apex, broadly cuneate to rounded and slightly decurrent at base; lateral nerves well spaced, curved-ascending, 4–7 pairs.

Corolla crimson-red (rarely orange flushed), the apical swelling darkening in ripe buds, 3–4 cm long; apical swelling of mature buds 3.5–5 mm across, 1.5–2.5 mm tall, depressed-conical, pentagonal, slightly reduplicate; basal swelling 3–4 × 2–3 mm, ellipsoid.
Umbels 3–9, mostly at older leafless nodes; peduncle 2–10 mm long; pedicels 2–6, 2–5 mm long; bract cup 0.5–0.7 mm long, with a triangular limb 1–2 mm long.
Style constriction 2–2.5 mm long; stigma 1.8–2 mm across, peltate or depressed-turbinate.
Twigs terete, glabrous or scurfy on youngest parts; bark grey, becoming powdery.
Inner anther thecae 2–2.5 mm long; outer ones 1.2–1.5 mm long.
Berry red, 6–8 mm in diameter, subglobose; seed yellow.
Receptacle 1–1.2 mm long.
Calyx 0.5–1 mm long.
