Characteristics

Annual herb, perhaps sometimes perennating, taproot simple, stems wiry, several tufted from crown., c. 120-220 mm tall, erect or decumbent, very well branched and twiggy, pubescent, hairs up to 0.1-0.3 mm long, recurved, upper parts leafy. Leaves opposite, alternate upwards, weakly fascicled, largest primary leaves 3-5 x 0.5-1 mm, narrowly elliptic, apex subacute, base slightly narrowed then abruptly expanded and half-clasping, margins entire, texture moderately thick, venation invisible, hairs up to 0.2-0.25 mm long on margins and lower surface, upper surface glabrous; axillary leaves similar but smaller. Inflorescence a few-flowered raceme (glomerule) c. 4-6 x 5-7 mm in first flower, mostly solitary at tips of leafy twiglets or about 3-5 aggregated in a loose corymbose panicle. Bract adnate to pedicel only, lowermost 2.2-3 x 1-1.2 mm, elliptic, acute, concave, hairs up to 0.2-0.25 mm long on margins, 0.15-0.2 mm on back, inner face glabrous. Pedicels up to 0.2-0.5 mm long. Calyx 1.5-1.8 mm long, campanulate, 5-lobed roughly halfway to base, 2 anticous lobes slightly larger than other three, all lobes deltoid, acute, hairs up to 0.2-0.25 mm long on margins and outer surface, inner surface glabrous. Corolla tube 2-2.2 mm long, funnel-shaped, limb 3.2-4 mm across lateral lobes, posticous lobes 1.1-1.5 x 0.9-1 mm, anticous lobe 1.8-2.1 x 1.1-1.3 mm, all lobes elliptic, white, yellow patch down back of throat. Stamens: posticous filaments 0.7-1 mm long, anthers in throat or mouth, anticous filaments 1.2-2 mm long, anthers exserted. Stigma and style c. 2.7-3 mm long, style glabrous. Ovary c. 0.8 x 0.3 mm. Coccus 1.5-1.7 x 1 mm, dark brown, held within persistent calyx.
