Characteristics

Scandent shrub or liana to 2–5 m long. Stem pubescent, becoming glabrescent when old; branchlets canescent to tomentose. Leaves shortly petiolate; lamina cordate, orbicular to broadly ovate, margin entire, base obtuse or shortly acuminate, 20–65 mm long, 20–55 mm wide, chartaceous to coriaceous, adaxial surface softly pubescent but green shiny, abaxial surface glandular-punctate and densely pubescent or tomentose; petiole densely pubescent to tomentose, 3–10 mm long. Inflorescence terminal, thyrsoid, 30–90 mm long, 40–140 mm wide; many-flowered, pubescent to tomentose; lateral primary peduncles pubescent to tomentose, 10–40 mm long. Flowers subsessile or with a short pubescent pedicel up to 1 mm long; bracts minute, sessile, oblong or linear to narrow ovate, c. 1 mm long. Calyx narrowly campanulate or obovoid, shallowly 5-lobed, sometimes almost truncate, glandular and hoary-pubescent outside, glabrous inside, 2.5–3.5 mm long, 1.5–2 mm diameter near base of lobes; lobes short, apex acute, c. 0.5 mm long, about 1 mm wide at base. Corolla white or greenish white, infundibuliform, 5-lobed, glandular and pubescent outside, sparsely villous in throat; tube slender, cylindrical, broadened towards mouth of corolla, almost twice as long as the calyx, 4–7 mm long, 1–2 mm diameter near base of lobes; lobes elliptic or oblong, apex obtuse, 2–3 mm long, 1–2 mm wide. Stamens much exserted; filaments white, filiform, glabrous becoming villous towards base, 4–9.5 mm long; anthers oblong or elliptic, 0.5–1 mm long, c. 0.5 mm wide. Ovary ellipsoid or obovoid, glandular and densely hirsute to tomentose on upper half, faintly 4-lobed at apex, 0.5–1 mm long, c. 0.5 mm diameter; style exserted, filiform, glabrous, 8–12 mm long. Fruit obloid to ellipsoid, rounded at apex, almost twice as long as the fruiting calyx, green, turning greyish brown when mature and dry, 5–8 mm long, 2–3 mm diameter, glandular, hirsute to tomentose on the upper half. Fruiting calyx chartaceous, 3–5 mm long.
