Perennial herb, 0.15-0.30 m long; woody at base. Stems decumbent then erect, sometimes with axillary branches; pubescent, hairs acute and gland-tipped. Leaves opposite becoming alternate; blade oblong-elliptic to obovate, 5-20 x 2-8 mm long, apex obtuse to rounded, base rounded with distinctive pulvinus, margins dentate, leathery. Flowers: in globose heads, 15 x 15 mm, usually solitary, elongating in fruit; stamens all exserted; calyx of 5 equal, spathulate lobes, free to base or briefly connate; corolla with tube 4-6 mm long, cream-coloured, limb bilabiate, lobes oblong to elliptic, 4-5 mm in diameter, creamy to pale yellow above, cream-coloured below; Dec.-Mar.

Leaves up to 20 x 8 mm, oblong-elliptic to obovate, ± obtuse, base with pulvinus, margins crenate to serrate above, ± glabrous with tiny hairs on lower margins. Flowers in spherical heads, ± 15 mm in diam., usually single, lengthening in fruit. Calyx: lobes free to base or rarely somewhat connate. Corolla: tube up to 6 mm long, cream-coloured; limb bilabiate; lobes cream-coloured to light yellow or ochre above, cream-coloured below. Fruit a capsule with ± 20-25 ovules per loculus.
