Erect, much branched shrub or undershrub up to 1 m. high.. Branches glabrous; bark reddish brown.. Leaves sessile or subsessile; leaf-blade linear or narrowly elliptic, (4–)10–24(–32) mm. long, (0.5–)1–5(–8) mm. wide, rigid, glabrous.. Inflorescence capitate, terminal and axillary, 10–25-flowered, sessile or shortly peduncled.. Bracts 8–14, narrowly linear to lanceolate, 6–10 mm. long, 2.5–4 mm. wide, papery, densely ciliate, inner ± puberulous, especially along the midrib, outer usually glabrous, brownish, persistent.. Flowers yellow or greenish yellow, 4-merous; pedicel 1–2 mm., with white hairs, the upper ones surrounding the ovary.. Calyx-tube 7–12 mm. long, usually glabrous but sometimes sparsely hairy below the articulation, densely pubescent above the articulation; lobes oblong, rounded at the apex, 1–1.5 mm. long, 0.8–1 mm. wide, pubescent on the outside.. Petals minute, spathulate or filiform, 0.3–0.5 mm. long.. Stamens sessile or subsessile; anthers 0.5–0.8 mm. long.. Ovary 1.5–2.5 mm. long, shortly stipitate, glabrous; disc minute or lacking; style 2–3 mm. long, excentric; stigma papillate.. Mature fruits not seen.. Fig. 6/3, p. 20.
