Perennial shrub or dwarf shrub, 0.15-0.75 m high; much branched, glabrous in all its parts; branches short, divergent, slender, terete, smooth, leaf scars inconspicuous. Leaves opposite, sessile, ovate-oblong to nearly lanceolate, acute, submucronate; base obtuse; 1-nerved on upper side, 3-5-nerved beneath, dark brown when dry. Flowers 2-4 in terminal heads. Hypanthium glabrous; tube slightly widening upwards, smooth; sepals ovate-oblong, acute. Petaloid floral scales 4, subhyaline, elliptic. Ovary ovoid, compressed, with terminal tuft of hairs. Style excentric, as long as hypanthium tube. Stigma capitate. Flowering time Sept.-May.
Much-branched shrublet to 30 cm, blackening when dried. Leaves opposite, ovate-oblong; involucral leaves slightly larger. Flowers 2-4 at branch tips, yellow, hypanthium glabrous, petaloid floral scales 4, pale and membranous.
