Characteristics

Erect, wiry shrub up to 1.5 m. high.. Branches slender, glabrous, with brown or red bark.. Leaves subsessile; leaf-blade narrowly elliptic or oblanceolate-linear, (7–)10–15(–24) mm. long, (1–)2–4(–6) mm. wide, glaucous green, glabrous.. Inflorescence a terminal or axillary, bracteate head, 30–80-flowered.. Bracts (4–)5–6(–7), ovate or ovate-lanceolate, acute to acuminate, 6–9 mm. long, 2.5–5 mm. wide, membranous, slightly sericeous inside, glabrous beneath, green, sometimes with reddish margins, deciduous in fruit.. Flowers whitish or yellow, 4-merous; pedicel 1–2 mm. long, pubescent with a brush of hairs..
