Erect, shrubby, 1 ft. or more high; branches subverticillate, at first pubescent, soon glabrous, leaf-scars small and prominent; leaves alternate or subopposite, linear-lanceolate, acute, glabrous, about 3 lin. long and 0.5 lin. wide; flowers few, terminal or in the axils of the uppermost leaves; calyx densely hairy outside, white (Bolus); tube 4 lin. long, slightly inflated below, subcylindrical above, faintly ribbed; lobes broadly ovate, about 1.5 lin. long; petals 8, subulate, 1 lin. long; anthers 1/2 lin. long, obtuse; ovary compressed, hairy at the apex; style excentric, nearly as long as the tube; stigma capitate.
