Perennial shrub or dwarf shrub, 0.15-0.90 m high; branches obscurely angled, pubescent when young, with moderately prominent leaf scars. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, pungent, glabrous, 3-5-nerved. Flowers 1-3, terminal, sessile. Hypanthium yellow, puberulous outside, pubescent inside; tube funnel-shaped; sepals oblong, acute. Petaloid floral scales 4, membranous, half as long as sepals; upper anthers exserted, all oblong, obtuse. Ovary ovoid, compressed, with terminal tuft of hairs. Style excentric, nearly as long as hypanthium tube. Stigma capitate. Flowering time all year.
Spreading or erect shrublet to 30 cm. Leaves opposite, lanceolate-pungent; involucral leaves slightly larger. Flowers 1-3 at branch tips, yellow, hypanthium funnel-shaped, glabrous to sparsely hairy, petaloid floral scales 4, membranous.
