Perennial shrub or dwarf shrub, 0.15-0.90 m high; branches obscurely angled, pubescent when young, with moderately prominent leaf scars. Leaves opposite, lanceolate, pungent, glabrous, 3-5-nerved. Flowers 1-3, terminal, sessile. Hypanthium yellow, puberulous outside, pubescent inside; tube funnel-shaped; sepals oblong, acute. Petaloid floral scales 4, membranous, half as long as sepals; upper anthers exserted, all oblong, obtuse. Ovary ovoid, compressed, with terminal tuft of hairs. Style excentric, nearly as long as hypanthium tube. Stigma capitate. Flowering time all year.
