Species

Angiosperms > Malvales > Thymelaeaceae > Gonystylus

Characteristics

Tree to 15-20 by 0.6 m. Branches fuscous, glabrous; innovations shortly softly ochraceo-tomentellous. Leaves elliptic-oblong, 6½-15 by 3-6 cm, base mostly rounded, apex abruptly caudate (cauda 6-12 mm long), chartaceo-coriaceous, with drip-tip up to 2½ cm, with a conspicuous narrow thickened margin below, drying a purplish-leaden colour, especially beneath, dull but not shagreened above, sparsely puberulous especially on the midrib below; lateral nerves numerous, conspicuous and rather crowded; petiole 8-10 by 2-3 mm. Inflorescences little branched, up to 10 cm long, softly shortly ochraceo-pubescent. Pedicels up to 6 mm, densely tomentellous. Flowers the smallest known in the genus, 4- diam. (possibly not quite mature), globose. Calyx ovoid, up to 6 mm. Disk-lobes 10-12, very slender, pustulate towards apex, glabrous. Style surrounded at the base by 3 conspicuous, filiform, clavate-capitate parastyles, I1! 2 mm long. Sepals ovate-deltoid, 3 by 1½-2 ¼ mm, subacute, finely puberulous outside, densely silky within.
