Grammosolen dixonii (F.Muell. & Tate) Haegi

Species

Angiosperms > Solanales > Solanaceae > Grammosolen

Characteristics

Erect, spreading or sprawling, greyish shrub 0.3–2 m high and 0.8–3 (–5) m diam. with ascending branches. Branches very densely lanate-tomentose with multangulate-dendritic and verticillately branched non-glandular hairs mostly 0.6–1.3 mm long and fewer to 1.5 mm long, and scattered, inconspicuous simple glandular hairs 0.1–0.4 mm long, the indumentum gradually wearing off with age. Leaves subsessile or with petiole to 3 mm long, distally inclined to loosely appressed, often ±overlapping to obscure much of the axis; lamina ovate-triangular to subcordate with acute to slightly obtuse, rarely acuminate apex and flat or undulate margin, (6–) 8–16 (–20) mm long, (4–) 6–15 (–17) mm wide, densely tomentose with stalked multangulate-dendritic and verticillately branched non-glandular hairs mostly 0.1–0.3 mm long and fewer 0.2–0.5 mm long, together with inconspicuous simple glandular hairs 0.05–0.1 mm long, the branched hairs usually denser and 0.7 mm on the underside. Flowers borne in leafy clusters of 1–3 cymes, each cyme with 1–3 flowers, terminating much-condensed lateral branchlets and sometimes forming leafy spikes; inflorescence bracts 1–4 mm long and 0.5–2 mm wide; pedicels 0.2–0.8 mm long, glabrous. Calyx 3.3–5 mm long, densely tomentose. Corolla (7.5–) 8–12.5 mm long, dull white with violet striations in tube, pubescent with multangulate-dendritic non-glandular  hairs outside, densely papillose on lobes inside; lobes ovate to elliptic with acute apex, 3–6 (–7.5) mm long, (1.6–) 2–4 mm wide, margins flat. Stamens 5, the longer ones (3.5–) 4–5 mm long, the shorter ones 2.5–3.5 (–4.2) mm long. Capsule ±embedded in dense long hairs of calyx and axis, subglobose, 3.5–4.5 mm long, 3.5–4.8 mm wide. Seeds 1–5 in all, 2.5–3.5 long.
